I spent my last Thanksgiving break visiting friends in New York City. It was my first time ever in the big apple, and I was excited to explore trendy shops and restaurants. Over the past years, I have followed food accounts on Instagram that capture images of food from cafes and restaurants all over the world. I began to find accounts that focused on foods within cities. Specifically, urban metropolitan areas. I saw accounts that featured foods from Los Angeles, London, Paris, New Orleans, and of course, NYC. These accounts could also be known as “influencers,” because they “possess extensive social networks” (Social Media: How to Engage, Share, and Connect).
When I went to NYC, I already had an idea of what places I wanted to go eat at. For months my feed had been filled with aesthetic images of food that were taken from places to eat all over the city. These images lead me to want to try foods at these places. With over 26,500 places to eat in the city, New York City food accounts gave me a guide on where to eat.
Here are the top 3 accounts for you and your friends to follow to help you explore eateries across the city just like I did.
1. New Fork City @Newforkcity
New Fork City is a personal food blog shared by three owners. The account holds over 949,000 followers. In its bio is the pin for NYC. This means that all of the content posted is based in the city. New Fork City posts images of all types of food for any audience. What I enjoy most about this account is that every image posted is linked with its location on where it is from. This means that if a user scrolls past an image, such as the one I have posted below, the user would know that pasta dish is made at I Sodi restaurant. The user could then click on the restaurant name, and Instagram’s location feature would then allow the restaurant to be found on the map. This is not only beneficial for the user, but it also attracts an audience to that restaurant.
Additionally, when the user clicks on the location, other images of dishes that are served at I Sodi would appear. You can see what this looks like on the image I have posted below. This allows a user to see other items served. With these features, New Fork City acts as the perfect tool for any user looking to find a place to eat in the city.

2. New York Foodies @Newyorkfoodies
Coming in second is another blog account called New York Foodies. With over 14,000 followers, New York Foodies is a relatively new account that is growing exponentially. Similar to New Fork City, New York Foodies produces an array of images that cover all types of food. This account also utilizes Instagram’s location feature, so users can find what restaurant the food comes from, and where the restaurant is located. What I enjoy most about this account is that the content comes from Instagram users. This means that each post the account uses, is from a user that wanted their photo to be featured on the account. Each picture featured on the account gives a shout out to the person who posted the picture. This method allows the account to have a relationship with its users, where the users supply the content for the account, and New York Foodies, who has a large following, can give credit to that user, who will gain more followers.

3. NYC Eeeeeats @Nyceeeeeats
With close to 400,000 followers, NYC Eeeeeats is another major food account to look out for when you are looking for inspiration on where to eat in the city. This account is similar to the other two above, but NYC Eeeeeats uses hashtags to promote its content. Under each photo posted, the account uses a series of hashtags related to food and a hashtag for the account name. This can gather attraction and viewer attention if the user searches one of the hashtags. Additionally, the account posts attractive photos of foods and links the food to the restaurant where it is served, so viewers, if they wish to have that dish, will know where to find it in the city.
Social media platforms such as Instagram, act as a form of PR and advertisement for companies to gain an audience. Influencers, such as the three accounts I talked about, are able to post content for their account, while promoting a specific restaurant.
So, if you are taking a trip to the city, know friends who are visiting the city or if you even live in the city, I can promise that these accounts act as the perfect guide to finding the right place to eat that satisfy your daily craving.

Your post made me so hungry! It’s so funny that you also use these accounts, because I’ve used all of them! I live about 1.5 hours from the city and when I go in love to try new restaurants. This past break my friends and I used New Fork City and found Nizza, which has a cacio e pepe that looks almost identical to the at I Sodi’s. I consider myself a big foodie, and thought it was one of the best pasta dishes I had. Reading your post wanted me to go into the city right now to try the other one. I really appreciate food accounts like the ones on your post, not only for recommendations for wher…
